Moss Houses Farm Review added: 2018.08.31
A great experience from start to finish. We visited on Saturday 8 July 2017 and were met by a helpful, knowledgeable and friendly warden who explained where to find the denizens of this special place. All three of us were keen to see the ospreys and their three chicks but after chatting with the warden realized that adders, slow worms, dragonflies, butterflies and other rare birds were also on the what-to-see menu. Before we even got to the main viewing platform we'd spotted a young female adder, a slow worm, a toad, three roe deer and a profusion of blue-tailed damselflies. We climbed to the top of the small tower at the end of a boardwalk to be met by another enthusiastic expert warden. The actual osprey's are about a kilometre away and the warden let us use her spotting scopes to see them: the view of the female Osprey feeding her chicks with the male sat on a nearby branch was stunning. A big thank you from us for the hard work from the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Natural England to establish this iconic bird in the South Lakes.
